The Fort Myers Police Department is celebrating its new Police Athletic League (PAL) building with two events on Thursday and Friday,
December 2 and 3, 2021.

The first event is a photo opportunity for the media on Thursday starting at 5:30 PM with PAL youngsters showing their skills in various sporting events that will include boxing, cheerleading, karate, and more. Mentors and coaches will also be on-site to discuss how they guide boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 17 with sports programs to enhance character and inspire positive life skills.

On Friday at 2 PM FMPD and City of Fort Myers leaders will hold a ribbon-cutting to officially open the new center and introduce the redesigned complex to the community. “I take pride in FMPD’s Police Athletic League or P.A.L., as the program is popularly known”, said Chief Derrick Diggs. “In one sense I enjoy it because I’m sort of a big kid myself. I enjoyed sports growing up, played in high school and college, and feel that organized sports can teach valuable lessons such as discipline, camaraderie, and, of course, teamwork”, he added.

The open house and photo opportunity of the newly refurbished home of the Police Athletic League (PAL) is at 3280 Marion Street, Fort Myers. (Former Shady Oaks Community Center - Behind Terry Park.)
