(Fort Myers, FL: February 17, 2012) - On Thursday, February 16, 2012 the Fort Myers Police Department arrested Joshua Davis (d.o.b. 11-22-93 of Fort Myers) for a burglary that happened last week. On Thursday, February 9, 2012 Officer Amber-Lee Williams responded to a burglary at 3710 Estelle Avenue. Officer Williams learned that an unknown male had been going door to door claiming to sell games. A neighbor of the victim declined the offer but watched the suspect go from house to house. The neighbor called police when she noticed lights on at the victim’s home when she knew no-one was there.
Officer Williams found the house was burglarized. The thief pried a window open and stole jewelry. While Officer Williams worked with the victim, Community Service Aide Classie Coleman processed the crime scene and collected evidence. Yesterday, Crime Scene Technician Trina Maurice identified Davis as the suspect from evidence he left behind at the scene. Officers Yanny Morales and Jesus Ramos located and arrested Davis for burglary and grand theft.
Police hope this serves as a reminder to citizens to always report suspicious vehicles and people in your neighborhood. Watch out for your neighbors’ homes while they are away. Call and report any people soliciting door-to-door for sales or services. City ordinance requires they have a license. And don’t be afraid of being wrong, call police even for a gut feeling or a hunch.
