(Fort Myers, FL: January 27, 2012) - The Fort Myers Police Department has arrested a suspect for the Christopher Ramirez homicide that happened last November. Police arrested Joquinn Benjamin (d.o.b. 9-2-88 of Fort Myers) for Second Degree Murder. On November 24, 2011 at 2:39 a.m. the Fort Myers Police Department received a call in reference to a shooting at 3239 Central Avenue. The victim, Christopher Ramirez (d.o.b. 7-3-89 of Fort Myers), had been shot in his front yard and transported to the hospital by friends. Ramirez died from his injuries.
FMPD Detectives investigating the homicide learned that the shooting was the result of an altercation at a restaurant earlier in the evening. Police developed Joquinn Benjamin as a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant for Second Degree Murder. With the assistance of the United States Marshals Service, Benjamin was located in Georgia and taken into custody without incident. Recently, Benjamin was transported to the Lee County Jail and during an interview with FMPD detectives confessed to the crime. In addition, police recovered the AK 47 type assault rifle used in the crime.
