(Fort Myers, FL: December 10, 2011) - On Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 10:23 p.m. the Fort Myers Police Department responded to what appears to be a suicide in the Caloosahatchee River. The male caller simply stated that he was on the bridge and he was going to jump. Police identified the male as Irvin Howard Jr. (d.o.b. 7-31-87 of Fort Myers) and located him on the crest of the southbound span of the Edison Bridge. He was sitting on the railing over the water. Shortly after police made contact with Howard, he jumped off the bridge. Multiple agencies responded to assist including the Fort Myers Fire Department, the Cape Coral Fire Rescue, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit and the U.S. Coast Guard. An extensive search by boat and by air was conducted for several hours but police did not locate Howard. Police are now working the case as a missing person.
