Police Investigating Traffic Crashes

(Fort Myers, FL: November 19, 2011) - On Saturday, November 19, 2011 the Fort Myers Police Department responded to two separate traffic crashes that sent people to the hospital.

The first crash happened at 7:22 p.m. near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Broadway Avenue. Police have learned the driver of a motorcycle was headed east on MLK. The driver of a pickup truck was headed west on MLK. The driver of the truck attempted to make left turn onto Broadway and drove into the path of the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet and was ejected from his seat. He was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital trauma alert.

The second crash happened at 7:52 p.m. at Winkler Avenue Extension and Challenger Boulevard. Police have learned the driver of a Ford Mustang was traveling north on Winkler. The driver of the Ford Explorer was traveling west on Challenger. The driver of the Explorer ran a stop sign at the intersection and the two collided. The impact flipped the Explorer. A female passenger in the Explorer was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Mustang was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The crash investigations are ongoing.
