Traffic Fatality Update #5: Police have arrested two people in connection with a fatal crash involving a bicyclist on December 5th. Police arrested driver Erik Mondragon (d.o.b. 6-5-92 of Fort Myers) for leaving the scene of a crash involving death and tampering with evidence. Police arrested his passenger, Andy Mondragon (d.o.b. 10-7-96 of Fort Myers) for tampering with evidence. On December 10th officers located the truck at a home off Nottingham Drive. The Mondragons had removed the truck’s hood and covered the Dodge with a blanket. Investigators say the bicyclist was at fault for the crash. Had the Mondragons not left the scene they would not have faced charges. Police believe the two didn’t stop because they were scared.
Update #4: Police located the truck and the driver involved in the crash. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending in the case.
Update #3: Officers are still looking for the driver of a Dodge pickup truck involved in the December 5th fatal crash of a bicyclist. Attached are pictures that are SIMILAR to the truck involved in the crash. It’s a metallic black, 2007-2008, Dodge Ram extended-cab, four-door, pickup truck. It possibly has a hood scoop and rear spoiler. It has dark tinted windows. The truck has damage to the driver’s side headlight assembly, damage to the front grill and paint damage to either the front bumper and/or driver’s side fender. Update #2: Police have notified the victim’s family. The victim’s name is Frank Sanders (d.o.b. 5-22-34 of Fort Myers). Police are still looking for the vehicle involved in the crash. (Fort Myers, FL: December 5, 2010) - Tonight at 8:47 the Fort Myers Police Department responded to a fatal traffic crash involving a pickup truck and a bicycle. The bicyclist died on scene. The crash happened at S.R. 82 and Wright Street. Currently the eastbound lanes of S.R. 82 have been shutdown from Wright Street to Ford Street. Police are looking for a silver, Dodge, extended-cab pickup truck with dark tint. The truck’s bed has a cover on it and possibly a spoiler on the rear. It will have damage to the front-end and windshield. It was last seen headed eastbound on S.R. 82. Details of how the crash happened are still under investigation.
