(Fort Myers, FL: December 23, 2009) - The police department is investigating reports of a possible scam. A male caller claiming to be soliciting money on behalf of the Fort Myers Police Department’s youth services programs called the home of an FMPD employee yesterday evening. Recognizing that the call may be a scam the employee reported it to the Fort Myers Police Department’s Detective Division. The telephone number is not associated with the Fort Myers Police Department or the City of Fort Myers. The complaint is currently under investigation.

At 8:50 p.m. the Fort Myers Police Department responded to a call in reference to a traffic crash on State Road 82 at the I-75 intersection. According to witnesses, a Ford pick-up truck slammed into the back of a commercial truck bearing a Pepsi logo. The Pepsi truck was stopped at a red light in the Eastbound lanes of SR-82 when the incident occurred. The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the commercial vehicle was unharmed. The incident is under investigation. The victim’s name will be released after notification has been made to the individual’s family. The Eastbound lanes of SR-82 at Ortiz Avenue are blocked and traffic is being rerouted around the crash site.
