UPDATE: Searches have found the body of the fourth boater on the northeast corner of Rat Island, east of the Edison Bridge in the Caloosahatchee River.
(Fort Myers, FL: December 17, 2009) - At approximately 6:30 p.m. the Fort Myers Police Department responded to a call for help in reference to several people found in the Caloosahatchee River. A boat carrying four people and three dogs capsized near the Edison Bridge. With the assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard three males and three dogs were pulled from the water. One male is still missing. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, Fort Myers Fire Department and Lee County Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the search. The individuals who were rescued were not seriously injured. Information involving the cause of the incident has not yet been determined.
