(Fort Myers, FL: December 10, 2009) - This holiday season Fort Myers City Employees hope to make some wishes come true through the Adopt-A-Senior Program. All of the seniors that registered to participate in the program, 150 total, have been paired with an employee. The seniors were chosen from the City of Fort Myers Renaissance Preserve facility and the Salvation Army’s senior community. Each employee is given a senior’s name and gift wish list. On Saturday, December 12 the Adopt-A-Senior event will take place at the AFCAAM center located at 3681 Michigan Avenue in Fort Myers. The event will take place from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.
In addition to Santa distributing the gifts the event also features: the Adopt-A-Senior board members cooking a free lunch for the seniors, the TNT choir singing Christmas carols and several area vendors. Each senior will leave the event with a free bag of groceries compliments of the Salvation Army. The Fort Myers Police Department’s Crime Prevention Practitioner, Gretchen Lorenzo, coordinated the event. The following organizations helped make the event possible: Salvation Army, AFCAAM, City of Fort Myers Housing Authority, Care Tenders and American Legion Post 38.
