UPDATE: Sketch of the suspect
(November 30, 2009) - Fort Myers Police are searching for a suspect in an attempted abduction of a four month old baby. It occurred in the 600 block of Fairview Avenue. The mother of the baby was pushing the child in a stroller when a suv pulled up next to them. The suspect told the mother to get into the vehicle. When she refused the suspect got out of his vehicle and attempted to unbuckle the baby from the stroller. The suspect fled, in the suv, when another car approached. The baby and his mother were unharmed.
Police set up a perimeter and canvassed the neighborhood but were unsuccessful. A BOLO (be on the lookout) was issued to area law enforcement agencies.
The suspect is described as being Hispanic and speaks fluent Spanish. He is approximately 30 years old and is 6 feet 270 pounds. He has a flat top haircut and was wearing a white t-shirt,
The vehicle is described as a newer model white four door suv, possibly a Ford Explorer. It has tinted windows and silver/chrome tailight covers. Part of the headliner was hanging down. Witnesses say the vehicle had a Florida tag.
