FMPD to Issue Tickets for Good Deeds

Categories: News

Children in Fort Myers may look forward to their next encounter with the "heat" this summer, thanks to a program developed by 7-Eleven® stores that rewards positive behavior with a very cool treat. Through Operation Chill®, Fort Myers Police officers will "ticket" with Slurpee® coupons when they observe children doing something helpful, deterring crime, or participating in a positive activity in the community.  Operation Chill not only rewards youth for their good deeds it can enhance their relations with police. "The coupons are great for officers who are on patrol in the community," says Chief Doug Baker.  "It's an icebreaker, a way to encourage dialogue in a non-threatening, non-law enforcement situation."

Youngsters ticketed by police will receive coupons for a free small Slurpee. They can be redeemed at participating Fort Myers 7-Eleven stores.  "This program is a big hit with both law enforcement agencies and kids,” said Tim Hall, 7-Eleven Asset Protection Manager.  "Police officers have told us they love having a positive reason to approach kids and thank them for being good citizens. With 100,000 Slurpee coupons available to distribute throughout Florida through Operation Chill, we hope to see a great deal of good behavior from kids in our communities,” Hall said.

According to 7-Eleven, the semi-frozen carbonated beverage has generational appeal with slurpers both young and old. More than a half-million Slurpee drinks are purchased each day during the summer at 7-Eleven Stores across the country.
