Recently, a city resident was outside working in the front yard, and was approached by a male claiming to be a utility worker advising he needed to check her residence for trees that may be interfering with the power lines. The suspect then asked to look at the trees in the backyard of the home, even after the resident stated there were no power lines. The suspect and the resident proceeded to the back yard to inspect the trees. The suspect stated if needed, he would come back and cut the trees for free. The suspect while in the backyard received a phone call and then excused himself and walked away from the residence. The suspect did not arrive or depart in a vehicle. Upon entering the residence, the resident found that items had been stolen from inside the residence. The resident did advise that the front door to the residence had been unlocked.
The suspect is described as being Hispanic, wearing navy blue pants, and a blue shirt. He was also wearing a light green vest that is commonly associated with utility workers.
