The Fort Myers Police Department is now accepting applications for the annual Respect for Law Camp, which is scheduled for May 30th through June 2nd at Bishop Verot High School located at 5598 Sunrise Drive. The goal of the camp is to give youngsters an up-close look at law enforcement. By doing that, the police department hopes to build respect for the law and enhance the child's self-esteem. Camp staff members are local law enforcement personnel and public safety guest speakers. Highlights for the 2013 camp include; live police scenarios, SWAT demonstrations, K9 demonstrations, police obstacle courses, hands-on equipment displays and team-building activities.
The four-day, three-night Respect for Law Camp is open to children ages 11-14. Enrollment is limited to the first 132 campers to apply. If you register your child before April 15th the cost is $75 and includes all instruction, food, and lodging. After April 15th the cost is $95. To register, an application must be completed with a check or money order attached (made out to "Respect for Law Camp"). Children from throughout Southwest Florida are welcome to apply.
