Checkpoint Results in 14 ArrestsOn Friday, March 8, 2013 the Fort Myers Police Department conducted a driver’s license checkpoint in the City. Police came in contact with 1,576 vehicles. All vehicles entering the checkpoint were stopped and officers checked drivers for a current license and registration. Police arrested 14 people and issued 31 citations. The arrests included the following charges:

  • (7) No driver’s license
  • (2) Expired license more than six months
  • (2) Revoked driver’s license (one provided a false name to a law enforcement officer and the other had an active arrest warrant)
  • (3) Suspended driver’s license

The checkpoint was located at Seaboard near Palm Beach Boulevard and was operational from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This type of checkpoint is designed to detect and apprehend drivers who do not have a valid license or who may have a suspended or revoked license. Also, it is designed to detect those who have not registered or insured their vehicle.
