Categories: News

On August 13, 2014 at 10:47 p.m. the Fort Myers Police Department was called to the Fort Myers Youth Academy located at 2515 Ortiz Avenue in reference two court ordered juveniles who had escaped from the facility. Once on scene police learned the juveniles identified as Cristoval Gonzales (d.o.b. 07/15/1999 of Frostproof, Florida) and William Bradford (d.o.b. 09/14/1999 of Bradenton, Florida) had escaped through window and scaled a fence that surrounds the compound. FMPD along with members of the Lee County Sherriff’s Office quickly formed a perimeter and began searching the area. K9 units along with the Aviation Unit were called in to assist with the search. A passerby called in seeing Gonzales and Bradford on State Road 82 walking east toward Interstate 75. Gonzales was apprehended shortly thereafter in a pasture just north of State Road 82 and east of Omni Lane. The search for Bradford continued for the next two and a half hours until he was located utilizing police K9’s in a wooded area south of State Road 82 between Forum Boulevard and Buckingham Road. Based on the investigation and court ordered mandates Gonzales and Bradford were each charged with escaping from a court ordered facility and resisting arrest without violence.
