Update #2

September 23, 2014

The District 21 Medical Examiner’s Office toxicology report has determined there was no presence of alcohol or drugs for the three vehicle occupants who lost their lives during a crash along Treeline Avenue on Saturday, June 14, 2014.

Traffic Homicide Investigator Officer Lesa Breneman’s investigation is now closed and has concluded that excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash but it is unknown precisely why the vehicle left the roadway ultimately striking a power pole. Evidence collected from the scene helped THI Breneman estimate the vehicle’s speed at approximately 85 M.P.H. in a posted 50 M.P.H. zone. The fire after impact resulted from a punctured gas tank which occurred during the collision with the pole.
