Categories: News
On Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 9:45 p.m. the Fort Myers Police Department arrested white male Houston Wayne Wimbish (d.o.b. 09/26/1989) for his role in a motorcycle versus bicyclist road rage crash that happened on April 14, 2014 at the intersection of Colonial Boulevard and McGregor Boulevard. The initial crash investigation revealed the victim, Christopher Griffiths, was riding his bicycle northbound on McGregor Boulevard when Wimbish, traveling in the same direction on a motorcycle, struck the bicyclist in the back with his hand for no apparent reason. A short time later Griffiths and Wimbish exchanged words as they began traveling eastbound on Colonial Boulevard from McGregor Boulevard. It was at this time Wimbish purposely drove his motorcycle at the rear tire of the bicyclist causing both men to crash. A motorist who witnessed the crash stopped to render aid. Wimbish attempted to punch the Good Samaritan who proceeded to check on Griffiths. Two additional vehicles on scene, which were occupied with friends of Wimbish helped tow his disabled motorcycle from the scene so he could make a getaway. The bicyclist remained on scene and was later transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries. Detectives using several witnesses from the crash, along with evidence located at the crime scene, were able to positively identify Wimbish. Numerous Crime Stoppers’ tips over the last month assisted in the investigative process. Wimbish was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and driving while license suspended.
