FMPD Investigates Fatal Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Accident

Update: The pedestrian who died in the overnight crash has been positively identified as Bobby Lee Bush (d.o.b. 08/05/1944, transient). Traffic Homicide Investigator Officer Jason Sandt’s follow up investigation determined a trash truck traveling westbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard struck Bush as he was crossing the roadway at Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard.

Bush was found at fault for not crossing within the designated crosswalk. Contributing factors according to the investigator were Bush’s dark clothing coupled with the inclement weather. The vehicles driver will not be cited or charged.

On Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 3:47 a.m. the Fort Myers Police Department responded to Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in reference to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident.

Upon arrival the police learned a pedestrian was struck while crossing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and died from his injuries at the scene. The driver of the vehicle involved remained on scene and FMPD Traffic Homicide Investigators are en route for the pending investigation.
