On March 19, 2014, at 11:53 a.m., the Fort Myers Police Department received a call from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in reference to two gunshot victims in a maroon vehicle driving themselves to the hospital. Shortly after police confirmed two gunshot victims had just arrived at the Lehigh Acres Regional Medical Center. Officers responded to the hospital and learned the following:
The victim’s, identified as David Pineda and Leah Rodriguez, were traveling on Leonard Boulevard in Lehigh Acres when an altercation occurred between the victims and the occupants of a blue Chevy Malibu The Chevy Malibu continued to follow the victims vehicle into the City of Fort Myers. Once near the intersection of Lee Boulevard and SR 82, the victims pulled over in an attempt to escape the suspects.
The occupants of the Chevy Malibu pulled up to the victim’s vehicle where more words were exchanged. At that point, an occupant in the Chevy Malibu fired several rounds into the victim’s vehicle striking both victims. The suspect vehicle fled the scene and the victims drove themselves to the hospital. Both victims suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Police are currently looking for Blue 2008-2012 model year Chevy Malibu. The vehicle was occupied by four African American males.
