FMPD Arrests Subject for Animal Cruelty and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon

On Wednesday March 12, 2014 at 3:48 p.m. the Fort Myers Police Department received a call of a man beating a dog with a 2x4 outside of 2255 Dora Street. While en route officers were updated by police dispatch that the suspect had begun threatening and swinging the 2x4 at neighbors. 

Upon arrival police quickly detained Charles Watson (d.o.b. 08/03/1994 of 2255 Dora Street). The ensuing investigation revealed the following: A witness to the event called 911 after hearing Watson’s dog crying and screaming in agony. Watson became agitated when he discovered the witness was calling police. Watson told the witness he was going to kill him and began threatening him by swinging the 2x4 at him. 

Investigators on scene spoke with several additional witnesses who also observed the animal abuse and threatening behavior by Watson. 

Watson was charged with Animal Cruelty and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The injured dog ran away before the arrival of Lee County Domestic Animal Services. Police and Lee County Domestic Animal Services are asking for assistance in located the injured dog. The dog is described as a brown and white pit bull mix named “Eight Ball”.
