Categories: News
On March 8, 2014 at 11:54 p.m. the Fort Myers Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of Blount Street and High Street in reference to a male armed with a firearm.

The first officer to arrive on scene encountered Raul Chavarria (d.o.b. 08/23/1990), who was armed. Chavarria pointed a firearm at the officer, who immediately took cover from the deadly threat. Chavarria then fled behind the residence at 1910 High Street.

The next arriving officer observed a male, later identified as Luis Sanchez (d.o.b. 01/31/1996), exit a green vehicle in the driveway of 1910 High Street. Sanchez was also armed with a firearm, and he pointed it at the officer. Due to the threat the officer discharged their firearm. Sanchez was not struck.  Sanchez fled on foot towards 2909 Blount Street. A perimeter was established and both Sanchez and Chavarria were located along with a firearm. No one was injured during the incident. Sanchez and Chavarria were each charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer without violence.

Chavarria was additionally charged with providing a false name to law enforcement after it was discovered he gave false information at the onset of the investigation.
