FMPD Apprehends Robbery Duo

Update #1: On Monday, February 3, 2014 at 5:05 p.m. Fort Myers Police Department Detectives and Community Policing Coordinators located and arrested Richard Nelson (d.o.b. 12/05/1976 of Fort Myers) and Melissa Mann (d.o.b. 05/21/1979 of Fort Myers) for armed robberies that occurred to Dunkin Donuts and Family Dollar just a few days earlier.

Police developed Richard Nelson and Melissa Mann as suspects and were able to take them into custody without incident. Nelson was charged with the armed robbery of the Dunkin Donuts located at 4726 Cleveland Avenue on February 1st and the armed robbery of the Family Dollar located at 4650 Cleveland Avenue on February 2nd. Mann was charged with the armed robbery that occurred at the Family Dollar on February 2nd.

"Since the first robbery occurred detectives and community policing coordinators have been working around the clock to identify, locate and arrest these brazen robbers”, said police spokesman Lieutenant Victor Medico. During both robberies Nelson was armed with a knife and injured the store clerk during the robbery at Family Dollar. Both Nelson and Mann confessed to the crimes and remain in jail without bond.

“Police Need Help Identifying Suspect in Multiple Robberies”

On Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 7:59 p.m. the Fort Myers Police Department investigated a robbery at the Dunkin Donuts located at 4726 Cleveland Avenue. Upon arrival police learned a white male with dark brown hair, a goatee and eyebrow piercing entered the business, ordered a coffee and then pulled a knife on the clerk demanding money. The suspect fled the business with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was wearing a black jacket with blue jeans and is believed to be in his mid to late 20’s.

On Sunday, February 2, 2014 at 7:08 p.m. the Fort Myers Police Department investigated a robbery at the Family Dollar located at 4650 Cleveland Avenue. The business was robbed by the same white male but this time he was dressed in a black t-shirt, blue hooded sweatshirt and white pants. The suspect again was armed with a knife and lunged over the counter to snatch money from the clerk who was in the process of making a money drop. This time the suspect was accompanied by a white female. The two subjects fled the business with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police would like the public to review the attached surveillance photos of the suspect and accomplice. Anyone with information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the robbery suspect could be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
