Police Arrest Grand Theft Auto Suspects

On Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 1:10 a.m. the Fort Myers Police Department received a call in reference to a stolen vehicle that had just occurred at a home on Lynwood Avenue. As officers began responding to the call, FMPD Officer David Gaide spotted the stolen vehicle traveling northbound on McGregor Boulevard. Forming a perimeter in their response, Lieutenant Randy Jelks and Lieutenant Jennifer Soto saw the vehicle stop at the intersection of Altamont Avenue and Lafayette Street and three suspects get out and start to run. K-9 Officer Jeremy Hawkins chased the suspects on foot into a wooded area and apprehended two of them. Police learned the suspects had stolen a gun from inside the vehicle and had discarded it during the foot pursuit. Officers also located the firearm. Police arrested Kenneth Brown (d.o.b. 10-23-90 of Fort Myers) and Kirby Henry (d.o.b. 10-30-87 of Fort Myers) for grand theft of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest without violence and grand theft of a firearm.
