FMPD Officers Catch Burglary Suspects in the Act

Categories: News

On Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 6:40 a.m. officers with the Fort Myers Police Department were dispatched to an alarm activation at Metro Vapor and Tobacco located at 3940 Metro Parkway. Upon arrival Officer Steven Gruber caught a juvenile suspect leaving the back of the business. Further investigation and evidence led to the arrest of the juvenile for burglary and grand theft.

Unrelated to the first incident, at 8:14 a.m. Officer Christopher Scavo and Officer Jason Jackson responded to Second Street in reference to a suspicious person. A resident in the neighborhood heard glass break and then spotted an unknown suspect leaving a neighbor’s house. The fast response and teamwork of the officers led to the apprehension of the suspect. With further investigation, detectives arrested Dewayne Roberts (d.o.b. 5-12-95 of Fort Myers) for burglary and criminal mischief.

Chief Doug Baker stresses the importance of a partnership with the community. “We had a business that took measures to secure their property and a homeowner who called in suspicious activity. The officers were vigilant in their approach and caught the bad guys. You can’t ask for a better combination.”
