On Thursday, October 31, 2013 the Fort Myers Police Department’s Special Investigations Group arrested two people for selling synthetic marijuana. Recently, undercover officers opened a case to investigate the distribution of synthetic marijuana, commonly referred to as “spice” from area convenience stores. In the first step of the investigation officers drafted a letter outlining the current law that was amended by Attorney General Pam Bondi. In summary, the law made it illegal to sell certain banned substances. The letter was hand delivered to every convenience store in the City of Fort Myers. The second step was to see if the stores were in compliance. Undercover detectives went to the stores and attempted to purchase the illegal substance. In the majority of cases, the stores were in compliance. However, three area stores continued to sell the synthetic marijuana and disregarded the educational letter. So far, police have arrested two of three suspects:
