Police Detain Two Involved in Shooting

Update: Police arrested Jamal Stillman (d.o.b. 7-17-92 of Fort Myers) for aggravated assault, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and resisting arrest. Police seized 122.4 grams of marijuana and a ski mask from Stillman. Last night’s incident was the result of a failed drug deal and it remains under investigation.

On Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 6:48 p.m. the Fort Myers Police Department responded to a shooting that happened at Manuel’s Branch Park located at 2777 Cortez Boulevard.

The FMPD K9 Unit was training in the area at Fort Myers High School when they heard gunfire. The officers ran towards the park to investigate. In addition, a Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputy working security for a football game at the school also ran to search. Possible suspects were spotted and the officers gave chase in a foot pursuit and apprehended a male in the southeast corner of the Lee Memorial Hospital property.

Responding officers setup a perimeter utilizing the LCSO Aviation Unit and located a second suspect at Carlton Street and Poinciana Avenue. Both suspects were taken to police headquarters for questioning. No one was hurt. The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
