The Fort Myers Police Department announces its 6th Annual Cops & Joggers 5K and Family Fun Night to be held on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Centennial Park located at 2000 West First Street in downtown Fort Myers. Benefitting fallen police officers and firefighters, this year’s event will take place during the evening hours with the glow of first responders’ lights lining the race path. The event will also include a DJ, silent auction, food vendors and a children’s fun area with bounce houses and family activities.

The race was first established in 2008 to assist the family of Officer Andrew Widman who was shot and killed in the line of duty on July 18, 2008. This year’s race is dedicated to Sergeant Mike Wilson of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office who was killed in the line of duty and FMPD Dispatch and 911 Operator Lisa Lewis who passed away after nearly 27 years of service.

Beginning at 7:45 p.m., the 3.1 mile run starts and ends at Centennial Park and will cross the Edison Bridge. There is still time to register. Participating joggers can register online with the Fort Myers Track Club at or at the event. Those attending the event should park in the garage at Bay and Monroe Streets.
