On Tuesday, September 24, 2013 the Fort Myers Police Department arrested Keith Jones (d.o.b. 3-31-80 of 5237 Cedar Bend Drive, Fort Myers) for two counts of robbery.
On Monday, September 23, 2013 at 1:35 p.m. the Fort Myers Police Department responded to a robbery at the Fifth Third Bank located at 1701 Boy Scout Drive. Upon arrival police learned that an unknown white male suspect entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding money. He fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police released surveillance photos of the suspect to the public through the media.
Police received information that Jones closely resembled the suspect featured in the surveillance footage. The information coincided with that brought forth by an FMPD officer who also recognized the suspect as a probationer. FMPD Detectives obtained a search warrant for Jones’s residence and located items linking him to the crime. Detectives questioned Jones and he confessed to the Fifth Third Bank robbery. In addition, Jones confessed to the August 6th robbery of the Bank of America located at 1511 Matthew Drive.
Police have solved four bank robberies in the last month. “The arrests show how dedicated our officers are to bring these criminals to justice,” said Chief Doug Baker. “Tonight’s arrest is another example of how hard work and our partnership with the community has removed a criminal from City streets.”
