FMPD Reminds Drivers to Use Caution

Categories: News

The Fort Myers Police Department would like to remind motorists that during inclement weather safety should be a top priority. Avoid flooded streets. It only takes 12 inches of water to stall vehicles. Water can also cause irreparable damage to engines, exhausts and electrical systems.

In addition, when visibility is reduced, please turn on your vehicle's lights so that other drivers can easily see you. Being visible is an important part of avoiding accidents. Florida State Statute requires you to turn your headlights on when you’re driving in the rain.

Please drive carefully, allow extra time to get to your destination and wear your seatbelt.
