Operations Bureau
Operations Bureau

The Operations Bureau is commanded by Captain Mike Viola. Operations includes the largest number of police employees. Officers assigned to Operations are responsible for responding to calls for service from Fort Myers residents and businesses as well as conducting preliminary investigations of crimes. The city is broken down into four districts  which are commanded by the following Lieutenants: Jay Rodriguez, Jennifer Soto, Abdul Salaam and Jeff Bernice.

Eighteen sergeants and more than 130 patrol officers are assigned to the Operations Bureau for the Fort Myers Police Department. They form the backbone of the agency and have the most contact with the public. Patrol officers and sergeants respond to calls for service from citizens. They also initiate their own investigations when they witness crimes or notice a crime problem. Patrol officers also are assigned to specific zones, so they can watch for ongoing problems and issues. Each officer works hard to get to know the residents, business people and issues in his or her zone.

Patrol officers and sergeants also begin the preliminary investigations of crime. They document their work on various reports and work closely with detectives, who investigate primarily felony crimes. Patrol officers make the majority of arrests for the agency.
