Operations Bureau
Winkler Safe Neighborhood

Three officers are assigned exclusively to patrol the Winkler District and work with citizens to find the root of ongoing problems and solve them.  Supervised by Lt. Jennifer Soto, the officers work much like community policing officers. They respond to calls for service, but spend much more time working directly with residents and business people to not only reduce crime, but to make the district a better place to live and work.

The officers aggressively identify and apprehend criminals, work with citizens to obtain intelligence information, plan special operations to target specific problems and increase visibility and continually survey the residents and businesses to identify problems.

The district is the first of its kind in the City of Fort Myers and it is financed by the property owners within the district boundaries, who pay an additional tax for the enhanced service. The City of Fort Myers also has planned a number of improvements in the district, which already are underway.
