Crime Analysis Minimize

One of the most effective methods of fighting crime is to carefully watch crime trends in the community. This is the responsibility of Crime Analysis Supervisor Vickie Maharrey.

Ms. Maharrey compiles statistics on a daily, monthly and yearly basis. The agency's command staff use these statistics to determine where and when crime is occurring and who potential suspects might be. The command staff then uses this information to effectively allocate resources in the community to stop crime and make arrests.

In January 2002, the Fort Myers Police Department initiated a concept called "Compstat." This idea was created by the New York Police Department in the 1990's. Simply stated, Compstat is a method of crime reduction. Crime statistics are analyzed on a daily basis and then police supervisors are empowered to find solutions in problem areas.
