The Fort Myers Police Department routinely utilizes specially trained officers to patrol the city on bicycles instead of cars. The bicycles are used primarily for patrol in the downtown Fort Myers area and for special patrol projects.

Bicycles allow officers to tactically approach areas quickly and quietly, without being detected. And often people feel more comfortable talking to an officer on a bike instead of from inside the more intimidating patrol car.
