Police Chief Douglas Baker assumed the role of interim Chief on August 1, 2008. He has been appointed Chief of Police until an individual is selected to fulfill the position permanently. Chief Baker is responsible for the overall operation of the police department in accordance with Florida State Statutes, local ordinances and policies established by the City of Fort Myers and the City Manager.
The Fort Myers Police Department is comprised of 206 sworn officers and 91 civilian employees with an annual budget of approximately $26 million.
Chief Baker joined the police department more than 20 years ago working his way up the ranks from a patrol officer to his most recent role, Major of Operations. In 2005, he earned a Master’s Degree in Management from International University. Chief Baker is a 2004 graduate of the FBI National Academy session 216. In 2000, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from International University.
