Office of the Chief
Public Information Minimize

The most visible responsibility of the Public Information Office is media relations. The Public Information Officer is responsible for answering all inquiries from the media, serving as spokesperson for the agency and arranging interviews between the media and members of the department.

Police Chief Hilton Daniels believes media relations is important because the media affords the Fort Myers Police Department an opportunity to talk to the public. Often, the Fort Myers Police Department also needs help from the media in getting information out to citizens, such as road closings or information about an unsolved crime.

In addition, the Public Information Officer produces numerous publications, such as monthly employee newsletters and the annual report. The Public Information Officer also coordinates the department's employee awards program and assists in organizing special events.
