Career Criminal Task Force

Officer Mary Ellen Hughes represents the Fort Myers Police Department as a member of the Lee County Career Criminal Task Force, which includes a number of other law enforcement and criminal justice agencies and the State Attorney's Office.

The primary goal of the task force is to identify habitual criminals and other criminals who have been arrested a number of times and ensure they are aggressively prosecuted. In addition, the task force pursues the most severe sentence possible for habitual offenders who are once again convicted of a crime. The group also notifies law enforcement agencies when criminals are being released from prison.
