TThe Fort Myers Police Department welcomes citizens to become involved in its Volunteers in Policing (V.I.P.) program. The program is designed to enhance the department’s service delivery by allowing enthusiastic, dependable, committed citizens to work alongside fulltime members of the department.
Volunteers perform invaluable services; they act as goodwill ambassadors for the department, serve as additional eyes and ears and can assist in clerical and support roles. The program allows citizens who wish to serve their community to do so in the public safety arena. Chief Doug Baker says the program is an effort to make the community safer and stronger. “The V.I.P. program allows citizens to take an active role in crime prevention. It brings another level of the general public into the police department and gives them a better understanding of the job we do and what they can do to help.”
