Crime Statistics

The 2009 overall crime rate fell by almost 12 percent in the City of Fort Myers.  The total number of reported non-violent crimes including burglary and theft was 2,831.  There was a decrease of 511 non-violent crimes since 2008 for an overall reduction of 15.29 percent.  The total number of reported violent crimes including assault, murder, robbery and sex offense was 819.  There was an increase of 22 violent crimes since 2008 for a small overall increase of 2.76 percent.

The Uniform Crime Report (UCR) clearance rate was 31.23 percent, which is an increase of 2.90 percent from the previous year.  The clearance rate of violent crimes was 39.44 percent.  The non-violent clearance rate was 28.86 percent.

Chief Doug Baker credits the overall decrease in crime to “the hard work of the officers, more crime tips being generated by improved community relationships and the ability to map crimes and crime trends thus preventing future crime.”
