FMPD Makes Three Arrests after Traffic Stop

On Thursday, September 20, 2018 at approximately 12:30 p.m. the Fort Myers Police Department attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle on Romeo Lane that was reported to contain three males armed with a handgun. As officers proceeded to conduct a traffic stop the vehicle fled, losing control at Michigan Avenue and Pawnee Street where it crashed into a house. The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot and officers quickly apprehend the suspects and located a handgun.

Arrested were the driver Theron Mitchell (date of birth 9/18/1998), Tyrone Witty, Jr. (date of birth 3/20/1989) and Antonio Burns (date of birth 8/13/1993.)  Mitchell was charged with Grand Theft Auto, aggravated fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, driving without a license and resisting arrest without violence. Witty, Jr. has been charged with resisting arrest without violence and on a local warrant for grand theft. Burns has been charged with resisting arrest without violence. In addition a discarded handgun reported stolen by the Miami-Dade Police Department was found and submitted into evidence.  All three suspects were transferred to the Lee County Jail where they remain with additional charges pending.

No injuries were reported and the house sustained structural damage.
