CALEA Accreditation Public Comment Portal

For Immediate Release

June 20, 2023

The Fort Myers Police Department received Internationally recognized Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation through The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies CALEA in 2020. The accreditation process requires the police department to be remotely reviewed annually, as well as an in-person assessment team to visit the police department every 4 years to ensure continued accreditation compliance.

The CALEA Accreditation program provides public safety agencies an opportunity to voluntarily demonstrate that they have met an established set of professional standards based on industry best practices and approved by an all-volunteer board of commissioners. View more information about the CALEA Accreditation process:

An integral part of the accreditation assessment process is public input on the police department’s ability to maintain compliance with its accreditation commitment. The purpose of this public portal is to receive comments regarding an agency's compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide the participating agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence.

IMPORTANT: CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgement to submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation. The public comment portal remains available to citizens on a continuous basis through the above link, and through the Fort Myers Police Department website.
