FMPD Responds to Shooting on Central Avenue

Fort Myers Police Officers responded to reports of gunfire at 2835 Central Avenue on Friday, February 16 at approximately 11:59 p.m. Upon arriving at the apartment complex officers located a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound who was identified as Brian Cannady (date of birth October 16, 1977.) FMPD officers and Lee County EMS personnel rendered aid to the victim but he died as a result of the shooting.

Police are seeking additional information on this crime. Citizens can call the department at (239) 321-7700 or leave an anonymous tip through tip411 on the FMPD website at www.fmpolice.com. In addition tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000. Tips may also be made online at www.southwestfloridacrimestoppers.com or by submitting a tip on the P3Tips mobile app. This is an active investigation and there is no danger to the general public.
