Case Update: FMPD Investigation Leads to Charges of False Report

Investigation-Graphic

On Thursday, July 18, 2019 the State Attorney’s Office served a summons to the attorney representing 42-year-old Jamie Kirschner of 3834 Rogers Street. The two charges are the result of a report filed by Kirschner of an occupied burglary that Kirschner said occurred on May 9th at Kirschner’s address.

The charges of making a False 911 Call, a First-Degree Misdemeanor, and filing a False Report to Law Authority, also a First-Degree Misdemeanor were approved after an extensive investigation revealed Kirschner falsely reported that someone forcefully burglarized her home while she was present. Detectives became aware of several inconsistencies with Kirschner’s account of the reported crime from the onset but continued their investigation, following up on all possible leads.

After several weeks of investigation that included neighborhood canvasses, multiple interviews, and a sketch artist rendering of a suspect, it became clear the offense never occurred and was fabricated by Kirschner. “The Fort Myers Police Department takes instances of false reporting very seriously because of the fear it may instill in the affected area as well as the tremendous amount of resources that could have been utilized for legitimate purposes,” said Detective Lieutenant Victor Medico.
