On Friday, November 30, 2018, officers with the Fort Myers Police Department were on patrol at approximately 2:06 a.m. near Golfview and Cleveland Avenues when they heard gunshots. The officers immediately began to search the area and were flagged down by a black male at the intersection of Earl Road and Cleveland Avenue. The male, identified as Whitfield Dacosta Mundle (01/17/91), stated he was shot at approximately a block away by man who missed him.

Mundle stated that he and another unknown white male had agreed to share a taxi ride and upon arrival the other male refused to pay and left the taxi to join two women and another man nearby. Mundle confronted the male about the fare owed and an argument broke out with the females, later identified as Stephanie Mesa (DOB 02/21/1985) and Sixta Maria Rivera (DOB 01/18/84). The women instructed the male, identified as Miguel Angel Carrasquillo Ortiz (04/12/90) to shoot at Mundle who fled the scene.

He provided a description to the responding officers who began to canvass the area and found the male suspect on an apartment stairwell at 1849 Maravilla Avenue and took him into custody and detain the female suspects.

Mundle positively identified Carrasquillo Ortiz as the shooter and the female Mesa as the one who instructed Carrasquillo Ortiz to shoot. The crime scene (s) were photographed by law enforcement and all evidence submitted to the Fort Myers Police Department. Carrasquillo Ortiz and Mesa were charged with aggravated assault with a weapon without intent to kill, arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail.
