Chief Douglas Baker

Police Chief Douglas Baker was sworn in as Chief on December 23, 2008. City Manager William Mitchell and the Fort Myers City Council selected internal candidate Douglas Baker from a pool of applicants in a national search. Chief Baker is responsible for the overall operation of the police department in accordance with Florida State Statutes, local ordinances and policies established by the City of Fort Myers and the City Manager. 

The Fort Myers Police Department is comprised of 174 sworn officers and 64 civilian employees with an annual budget of approximately $28 million.

Chief Baker joined the force more than 20 years ago working his way up the ranks from a patrol officer. Chief Baker earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master’s Degree in Management from Hodge's University. He is also a 2004 graduate of the FBI National Academy session 216.

The Fort Myers Police Department’s purpose is to provide exceptional public safety and service through quality partnerships. Chief Baker’s commitment to that purpose is evident in his strong support of community orientated policing and his dedication to serving the City of Fort Myers.
